Obituary

INGRAM, Winnie Lee, of Stratford died of natural causes on March 13, 2015, in Bridgeport Hospital after a brief illness. Winnie, the daughter of Reverend F. Stanley Sellick and Winifred (Schuler) Sellick, was born on November 18, 1923 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She moved to Stratford as young girl when her father was called to serve the First Congregational Church. Winnie's life was defined by a strong work ethic and a steadfast devotion to her church. A graduate of Butler University in Indianapolis, she worked as an administrator of aptitude tests before marrying Bill Ingram in 1947. She re-entered the workforce in the 1960s, teaching English grammar for several years at Butler Business School in Bridgeport before becoming a real estate agent.
Winnie's service to the First Congregational Church spanned virtually her entire life. Her earliest memories occurred there. She spoke often of ringing the bell in the church steeple with a friend to celebrate V-J day in 1945. In recent years she took great pleasure in reading the diaries kept by her father during the thirty years he served as pastor. The many committees on which Winnie served encompassed every facet of the church. However, her greatest reward came from the many years she sang in the choir. On countless Sundays and other important occasions, Winnie's alto voice helped to "make a joyful noise unto the Lord." Sacred music was at the center of her spiritual life.
Winnie's survivors include her sister Edrie Hough of Bethesda, Maryland, and her brother Winstan "Bud" Sellick of Indianapolis, Indiana. Survivors also include her children Scott Ingram of Portland, Connecticut, and his wife Carol; Barbara Ingram and Stuart Ingram of Stratford; and her son-in-law Joseph T. Twarkins of Beacon Falls. Winnie is also survived by her grandchildren: Tracy Tzovolos and her husband Greg of Hamden; Miles Ingram and his wife Kate of Glastonbury; Abby Ingram of Holyoke, Massachusetts; and Joseph I. Twarkins of Beacon Falls. Four great-grandchildren also survive Winnie: Matthew and Athena Tzovolos of Hamden, and Sadie and Sam Ingram of Glastonbury. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Bill, and by her beloved daughter Lucy Ingram Twarkins.
