William J. Smith Jr. of Seymour passed away on July 6, 2022 after a long illness with his loving family by his side. He was born in Bridgeport on May 15, 1942 and was the son of the late William James Smith Sr. and Anna Johnson Smith of Stratford.
Bill graduated from Stratford High School in 1960 and married his high school sweetheart Jacqueline Drew Smith on June 8, 1963. He worked as a machinist at US Motors in Milford for 10 years and was a car salesman at Statewide Motors of North Haven & Milton Weiss in Bridgeport. He then went on to work at Howard Johnson in Milford as night manager.
Bill was an avid golfer who loved all sports and was a diehard Yankees fan. He was also a baseball Card dealer known around New England as the Card Shark.
He was a big animal lover who had numerous cats and dogs. He loved all his animals especially his St. Bernards and his dog Yogi.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Jackie, his sons William J. III (Jenny), Michael (Young) and Patrick. His sister Mary Ann Moro and husband Tony, also many nieces & nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday July 11, 2022 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the Dennis & D'Arcy – Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main St. Stratford. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in St. James Church, 2110 Main St. Stratford. Interment will be in Kings Highway Cemetery, Milford following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to an animal shelter of your choice.
