Obituary

Walter Ernst Heiden, age 95 passed away Thursday September 2, 2021 at Yale New Haven Hospital after complications from surgery.
He was the beloved and devoted husband of the late Margaret (Heiken) Heiden, his loving wife of 49 years. He was born on December 30, 1925 in Stettin, Germany.
He immigrated to the United States in 1951. Walter worked as a supervisor in the test cell for Avco Lycoming Division for 30 years. He was a member of the Germania Sport Club. Walter enjoyed swimming daily at the Italian Community center and later at the Shelton Community Center. He also enjoying gardening, dancing and watching classic movies. Spending time on his deck, sipping a glass of wine, listening to the bird's chirp, looking out over his beautiful gardens was one of his favorite pastimes. He was an avid traveler enjoying numerous ocean and river cruises throughout the world.
Walter was a self-taught craftsman and took great satisfaction in building his own home in the Lake Forest section of Bridgeport. His family was his pride and joy and he cherished the time they spent together. He was easy going, offering support and sharing life lessons and stories with his children and grandchildren.
Walter is survived by his three sons Richard (Lynda), Ronald (Kathleen) and Gary (Crystal), all of Shelton. Grandfather "Opa" to eight beloved and cherished grandchildren, Lauren, Mykala, Christopher, Nathanial (Kristie), Kyrsten, Daniel, Nicholas and Kyle. His sister-in-law Anne Heiden, nephews Robert and Peter. Many loving nephews and nieces in Spain and Germany. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was predeceased by his parents William and Helen Heiden, his beloved wife Margaret Heiden, his twin brother William Heiden and sister Charlotte Kreklau.
The family will have a private service at Mountain Grove Cemetery in Easton, CT
In Lieu of flowers, those who desire may donate to Saint Vincents Swim across the sound c/o St Vincents Medical Center (HHC). The family wishes to thank SVMC and SVMC rehab for their exceptional care.
