Obituary

Wallace W. Hurd Jr., age 97, of Stratford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 13, 2026

Wallace lived a long and fulfilling life centered on education, the arts, and devotion to his family and community. For 31 years, he served as a beloved English Teacher at Trumbull High School, where he inspired generations of students with a deep appreciation for literature and language.

A man of great artistic talent, Wallace shared his beautiful voice with his community as a Tenor Soloist at the Golden Hill United Methodist Church for many years. He also shared a passion for the stage alongside his wife, the late Nancy Y. Hurd. Together, they spent many wonderful years working in the Box Office at both the American Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford and the Shubert Theatre in New Haven. Even after his formal retirement, Wallace remained an active and familiar face in his community, happily working at the Stop & Shop in Stratford, where he always greeted neighbors with a warm smile.

He was married for nearly 63 years to his beloved wife, Nancy, who passed away in 2022. Wallace’s legacy of love, hard work, and kindness lives on through his devoted children, Wallace W. Hurd III (Mary) of Norwalk and Robert G. Hurd of Ansonia; his seven cherished grandchildren, Lauren, Kellie, Amy, Zachary, Brianna, Aisalynn, and Remy; and his two adored great-grandchildren, Spike and Kaden.

A celebration of Wallace’s life will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Golden Hill United Methodist Church, Bridgeport, CT. Friends and relatives may greet the family from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the church prior to the service. Burial will follow at Nichols Village Cemetery in Trumbull.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Golden Hill United Methodist Church, 210 Elm Street, Bridgeport, CT.
