Thomas Charles
Dale Sr.
Jul 9, 1949 — Jun 4, 2023
Thomas Charles Dale Sr. aged 73 of Ansonia, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2023 surrounded by his loving and heart broken family, a testimony to the unwavering love, joy and laughter he brought to all.
Born in Bridgeport on July 9, 1949 to the late James Everett and Florence Elizabeth Dale. While he dedicated 22 years of his career to the role of Custodian Supervisor for the City of Bridgeport, Board of Education, his true devotion was to his beloved wife Christine and cherished son Tommy Jr.
Tom's love for his family knew no bounds. He cherished every moment spent with them. Having met his wife on a blind date in March of 1986, his first words to her were, "Well, you gonna move over?" It was that same sense of charisma, charming sarcasm and humor that led them to marry only one year later and dedicate a lifetime to one another. Twelve years after they welcomed Tom's pride and joy, Tommy Jr, which led to Tom retiring to devote all of his time to his new role as a father. He played a very active role in his son's life. He coached Tommy's Little League Baseball team and as Tommy pursued football, Tom took great pride in watching his son persevere in the sport; he could be found in the stands at every practice and game as Tommy's number one fan. Over time, Tom and Tommy would discover a shared interest in billiards and even competed on teams in APA leagues. They bonded over their love of golfing with Tom participating in various leagues with both his son and his buddies. Additionally, Tom also found relaxation in fishing, collecting different items, racing radio-controlled cars and building plastic model kits.
Know as "Coach Tiny", Tom's impact extended beyond his family. He shared his passion for baseball by coaching for Park City Little League upon his return from Vietnam. His inclusivity shone through as he welcomed the first girls onto his team, breaking barriers and fostering a love for the sport in all children.
A man of many passions, Tom was an ardent fan of the Washington Redskins football team and held an even greater love for NASCAR racing. He found joy in watching UCONN women and men's basketball as well as a college football with a particular fondness for the Florida State Seminoles.
Tom's larger than life presence will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His wife Christine and his son Tommy Jr were his pillars of strength and their unwavering love for him and loss is immeasurable.
Aside from his wife and son, Tom is survived by his sister Nancy Dale of Shelton; his mother in law Joanne Farrell of Bridgeport; his brothers in law Richard Pataky of Trumbull and Mark Farrell of Bridgeport; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by his sisters Joyce DeLucia and Linda Pataky, brothers Peter Dale Sr and James Dale Jr., brother in law Vincent (Jimmy) DeLucia and sister in law Frances Dale.
May the memories of Tom's vibrant life and his love for his family bring solace during this difficult time.
If you are a fan of Frank Pepe Apizza, Tom's favorite pie was a medium mozzarella, bacon and pepperoni well done. It's not a pie for everyone, but have a slice in memory of Tom if you get a chance. His favorite spot was the New Haven location.
