Obituary

Susan Leslie Niederhauser

November 27, 1947 – April 19, 2022

Susan Leslie Niederhauser died suddenly in her home in Stratford on April 19, 2022. She was born in Bridgeport, grew up in Stratford, and was the daughter of the late Florence G. Niederhauser and Lester B. Niederhauser. She is survived by her sister, Janet S. Niederhauser, PhD, and her brother-in-law, John O. Kim, JD, PhD, of Stratford.

Susan graduated from the University of New Haven with a B.S. in marketing and worked for a number of firms, including the Asgrow Seed Company, before beginning her career with the State of Connecticut. Until her retirement, she worked at the Department of Social Services offices in Norwalk and Bridgeport, where she provided services to the public as an eligibility specialist.

In her retirement she was able to devote more time to her many interests. Having spent her childhood on Long Island Sound, she obtained her personal watercraft operation certificate to pursue her love of boating. She also enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and Canada and made many trips abroad to Germany, Greece, and Turkey to name just a few. During her trips she always brought along her camera and became an excellent amateur photographer. Having learned how to fix just about everything from her father, a tool and die maker, she put those skills to work in decorating her home. Like her mother, she was an excellent cook and loved to entertain family and friends. She treasured nature and animals of all kinds. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Stratford Animal Rescue Society, PO Box 1371, Stratford, CT 06615.
