Rudolf A.
Meissner
Jul 25, 1925 — Nov 4, 2024
Rudolf A. Meissner
Rudolf Meissner, (Rudy) (Opa) age 99, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024, in his home with his family, closest friend and cat by his side. Born in Kiel, Germany, he was the son of Rudolf Meissner and Gertrude (Wende) Meissner. Rudy was predeceased by his siblings, Heinz and Hans Meissner and Erika (Meissner) Groth.
Rudy is predeceased by his loving wife Erika of 60 years. Rudy and Erika loved spending time and celebrating every occasion and holiday with their family and friends. They also enjoyed singing as members of the German American Singing Society in Port Chester NY and gardening together.
Rudy was an amazing man (nicknamed Superman by his Grandchildren). Rudy immigrated to the United States in 1950. He moved from Rhode Island to NJ to be closer to his sister. There he met his loving wife on a blind date and for the remaining 62 years their time together was a beautiful love story.
Rudy worked several careers including as a locksmith. He spent most of his career in the United States as a Tool and Die Maker for Consolidated Diesel in Greenwich CT. He was always immensely proud of awards he received for ideas and contributions he made while working on the parts for the Gamma Goat, (a patented off-road vehicle for the US Military). Rudy used his experience to build and create almost everything in their home. Rudy loved reading, music and dancing. There was rarely a time that the radio, or later, cassette tapes were not playing. Rudy was a loving Father and Grandfather; his warm smile and kind and joyful demeanor will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his daughter Irene (Meissner) Romaniello, and husband Rocco, of Stratford; his grandchildren, Nicole Erica (Romaniello) Winn and her husband Andrew and Daniel Rocco Romaniello and his wife Stephanie (Parente) Romaniello; nieces and nephews Linda, Elizabeth, Eric and Robert Groth; and by dear family friends John & Susan Gilronan and William Kuba.
