Robert John Turley, 84, passed away peacefully on March 1. He was
surrounded by loving family at Bridgeport Hospital. Robert was born and raised in Bridgeport, the only son of the late Robert Russell Turley and Elizabeth (MacCammont) Turley. He attended
Harding High School. Robert and the love of his life, his beloved wife
Madeline, were married in 1953 and resided in Stratford for 48 years.
Robert was a career employee of the Southern Connecticut Gas Company,
retiring in the position of Certified Credit Manager after 34 years
with the firm. His happiest work was with members of the public, where
he was devoted to customers who needed assistance to maintain their
gas service in times of need. In this capacity, he helped thousands,
and he was also gratified by his positive collaboration with the
community's civic leaders, social organizations, and state & local
agencies. Robert was a regular booster in the Bridgeport and Stratford
communities. Among his many civic obligations, he was past president
of the Bridgeport Civitan Club, and a past president of the Southern
Connecticut Gas Company Employees Credit Union. A dedicated Episcopalian, Robert was a member of Christ Church Stratford for over 40 years. He was an active communicant and a
Sunday School & Bible teacher. He was a long-time pastoral care
volunteer at Bridgeport Hospital, as well as other health care
facilities, and received the M.E.E.P. advanced pastoral care
certification from the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut.
Robert was a devoted worker of the Craft, and was raised a Master
Mason in 1957. He was a member of America-St. John's Lodge #8 AF&AM,
Stratford. He was also active in Lafayette Consistory, Scottish Rite,
as well as Pyramid Shrine, the York Rite, and other rites and
auxiliaries. He received the Scottish Rite Meritorious Service Award.
Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War era.
He is survived by his beloved wife Madeline (Pisanelle) Turley,
his son, Robert C. Turley and his wife Donna, grandchildren
Stephanie DeLorenzo and Lee Ann Turley, and great-grandchildren Bella,
Vincent and Ava; his daughter Kathleen S. (Turley) Dabrowski and her
husband Gary, and grandchildren Matthew and Daniel; his son Jonathan
P. Turley and his wife Debra, grandchildren Jonathan Turley Jr. and
his wife Betty Jean, Elizabeth Turley and her husband Paul DePalmer,
and Ian M. Turley and his wife Allison; and great-grandchildren Paul
Jr., Abigail, Sophia, Jonathan III, Alexander and Samantha.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday March 5, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Dennis & D'Arcy – Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main St. Stratford. Friends and relatives are invited to attend funeral services on Friday March 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Scott Lee, rector of the Christ Episcopal Church officiating.
