Robert William McCarthy Jr. (Bob), age 65 of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Born in Bridgeport on November 22, 1951, he was the son of Robert William McCarthy Sr. of Stratford and the late Jean Marilyn Dawber McCarthy.
Bob worked as a mechanic for the Town of Trumbull for 27 years prior to his retirement in January 2017. He was a lifetime member of the Connecticut Motorcycle Riders Association and a member of the Royal Order South Dakota Buffalo. He enjoyed working on and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles and driving his yellow Dodge Challenger. He was an accomplished custom bike builder featured in multiple magazines including Iron Horse January 1996 and American Iron May 2007. He participated in many motorcycle charity rides and he loved to travel, including traveling to Ireland in 2016 and yearly trips to Daytona for bike week. He loved dogs and even rescued a dog named Ginger from the shop in Trumbull.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his sister Patricia (McCarthy) Houle of Prospect, his nieces and nephews: Melissa (Houle) and Anthony Sciarretto of Prospect, Michele Houle of Prospect, and Jaime (Houle) and Brett Hawkins of Farmington, and his great nephews: Dominic Roger Sciarretto and Luca Joseph Sciarretto. He is also survived by his aunts Martha McCarthy of Madison and Maryellen McCarthy of Branford and three cousins. Bob was predeceased by his brother in law Roger Houle of Prospect.
