Robert David Smilth, age 75 of East Haven passed away Thursday July 16, 2026 at Yale New Haven St Rapheal Campus. He was the devoted fiancé of Lucy Frazier. Born in Hartford on June 13, 1951 he was a son of the late Herbert Knox Smith and Margaret Keane Smith. Bob worked many years as a property maintenance supervisor until his recent retirement.

 Bob was a special loving man, he was strong and steady, always there for a loved one whether he was there to help out with a project or just there for one of his jokes as dry as they can be. He was a true gentleman. He loved the ocean and was loyal to the Red Sox and Patriots. He was well known for his love of all animals. 

In addition to his love Lucy, he is survived by his brother, Herbert “Terry” (Darlene) Smith of Suffield, Lucy’s daughter, Kelly Pia, brother in-law, Thomas Whalen and sister in-law Iris Smith. He is also survived by nieces and nephews; Jacqueline (Benjamin) Flory, Devin ( Sarah) Smith, Erin Rodriguez and his great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased   in addition to his parents by his brother William Smith and his sister  Susanne Whalen.

 Friends and family are invited to greet the family on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 from 10:00 to 11:30 am at the Dennis & D’Arcy – Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford. A prayer service will immediately follow at 11:30. A private inurnment will take place at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory maybe made to: The Connecticut Humane Society.
