Richard Nicholas Zamfino of Fairfield and The Villages, FL joined the love of his life Lucille, in Heaven on Sunday, January 19, 2014 after a brief illness. Born in Port Chester, NY on December 4, 1937, Richard was the son of the late Frank and Mildred (Penebre) Zamfino. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Frank and Philip. Richard was a life long auto and truck mechanic working for L T Dobey, Loh Ford, the Sunbeam Baking Co. and most recently for the Kaufman Fuel Company in Bridgeport. He was a member Naval Reserves from 1955 to 1963 when he was honorably discharged. After his retirement, he moved to Florida where he enjoyed swimming, golf, bike riding and the company of his many treasured friends. Richard was a loving father, protector and friend to daughters, Lisa Zamfino of Fairfield, and Lori Coppola and her husband, Maurizio of Milford. He was the cherished Papa to granddaughters, Jennifer Dias and her husband, Michael, Megan Coppola and Kayla Coppola. He is also survived by his sisters and their husbands, Catherine and Patrick Summa of Danbury, and Linda and Robert Peterson of Trumbull, sister in law, Martha Zamfino, sister in law and brother in law Patricia and Peter Biagioni, brother in law and sister in law Robert and Rita Purciello, dear friend Cindy Warf of Florida and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Richard was a very generous man who enjoyed spending time with his large and loving family; those bonded by blood and those by love. He will be sorely missed. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 24 at 10am in Holy Family Catholic Church, Fairfield. Entombment will follow in Mt. Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may greet the family on Thursday, January 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Dennis & D'Arcy - Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home of Stratford, 2611 Main Street, Stratford.
