Obituary

Richard Calvin Tyler passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family by his side at the age of 83 on January 23, 2023. Richard was born in Scranton, PA on August 9, 1939. At a young age he moved to Bridgeport, CT and then resided in Stratford, CT where he went to school, married, and raised his children. He graduated from Stratford High School, served in the US Navy and graduated from University of Bridgeport where he earned his Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering. For many years, he worked as an engineer, and retired from Avco Lycoming.

His interests included carpentry, freshwater aquariums, antiquing, book collecting, history, and jogging. He was an avid fan of classical and science-fiction movies and Elvis. Richard could often be found shopping at the Stratford Antique store. He will be fondly remembered for his quirky sense of humor, witty one-liners, and the unique nicknames he had for most everyone. He often spent the summers with his family at their cottage on Lake Zoar. He is predeceased by his parents Mary and Richard Tyler, his wife Susan Tyler, son David Tyler, and nephew William Pardue. He is survived by his sister Louise Tyler of Milford, CT and brother in law Robert Moss and sister in law Susan Moss of Palm Beach, FL, his children Christine Tyler and her husband Todd Belt of Washington, DC, Richard Tyler of Trumbull, CT, and Jennifer Dina and her husband D'Andre Dina, of Stratford, CT. He is also survived by his nephews James Pardue, Robert Moss and Jesse Moss, his adoring six grandchildren: Heather Gregory, Hannah Tyler, Olivia Tyler, Samuel Dina, Madison Dina and William Dina; and three great-grandchildren: D.J. Gregory, Dylan Gregory and Dayna Gregory. He will be forever missed and to spend time with Richard, one would say, as he often would "How sweet it is!"

All funeral and burial services will be private. Donations in Richard's memory may be made to Stratford Animal Rescue Society (STARS), 225 Beacon Point Rd., Stratford, CT 06615. To offer the family online condolences please visit www.dennisanddarcy.com
