Obituary

Richard James Pivarnik Sr. age 77, of Stratford passed away peacefully on February 26, 2017 at Connecticut Hospice surrounded by loved ones. He was born on August 25, 1939 to the late William and Margaret Lesinsky Pivarnik. He spent 18 years as an auxiliary and special police officer for the Norwalk Police Department and was a retired State Judicial Marshal. He served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1959 and admired the time spent at the annual Navy Reunions. For forty years he was a proud member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Fairfield and was a FCCABU baseball umpire and assistant State Commissioner of Connecticut Babe Ruth Baseball. Richard was a longtime member of the NRA and mostly enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons and grandsons as well as spending quality time with his granddaughters. He found pleasure in warm days on his boat at Pootatuck Yacht Club. Richard was predeceased by two brothers, William (Kip) Pivarnik and Robert R. Pivarnik. He leaves behind his lifelong love and companion, Linda Kell of Stratford, his sons, Richard Pivarnik Jr. and his wife Kathy of Shelton and Troy Pivarnik of Norwalk, five grandchildren, Alicia, Briana, Richard III, Troy Jr. and Abigail Pivarnik. He is also survived by two brothers, Ronald E. Pivarnik and Daniel S. Pivarnik and sister in laws, Maryann and Gail Pivarnik and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Friday March 3, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Dennis & D'Arcy – Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main St. Stratford. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. meeting directly at St. James Church, Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial with celebrant Fr. Rogerio Perri. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be made to Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org/donate) or a charity on ones choice.
