Obituary

Richard Loehn, age 80, of Branford, passed of cancer peacefully surrounded by his family in his home February 1, 2023.

Loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle & brother.  He was predeceased by his wife Barbara (Spero) Loehn and former wife Bonnie (Carbone) Loehn.

Richard was born in Bridgeport, CT on April 5, 1942, a son of the late Ferdinand and Ninona (Miles) Loehn and was educated in Sandy Hook and Bridgeport. During his teenage years he enjoyed archery. He enlisted and served as a Boatswain Mate on the U.S.S. Capricornus, AKA-57 in the U.S. Navy. As a member of the Navy, Richard enjoyed traveling and seeing the world, including Greece, Spain and Italy. He was the second boat out during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Before his retirement in 2022, Richard worked 30 years for Securitas Security Service's USA, Inc at the University of Bridgeport as an Associate Director then switching to Lieutenant in his latter years. He valued hard work and punctuality.

Prior to Security, Richard worked at Vallerie's Transportation, Inc as a truck driver for 25 years. He was awarded 1st place in the CT Truck Driving Championship Rodeo in the early 80's and advanced to the Nationals.

He is predeceased by his sister Cheryl Knox, son Louis Loehn and daughter Sherri-Lee (David) Pauley. To cherish his memory, he is survived by his children, Dean Loehn (Anna) of Stratford, Brian Loehn (Deb) of Shelton, Dana Loehn (Julia) of West Haven and Shalene Loehn of Branford, half-sisters Dawn (Bobby) Novia of Stony Creek, VA and Veronica (Robert) Hoffman of Beacon Falls, CT as well as 17 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to send our sincerest thanks to all for the kindness care and compassion extended to Richard and his family.

Friends may greet the family on Friday, February 3, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. at DENNIS & D'ARCY - ABRIOLA & KELEMEN FUNERAL HOME, 2611 Main Street, Stratford. Services will begin at 6:30 p.m. with full military honors.
