Richard
Breault
d. Jun 1, 2020
Richard L. Breault, 86 years old, of Huntington, passed peacefully on June 1, 2020 following a long, extended battle with Alzheimer's disease. His wife of 63 years, Irene, was by his side. "Dick," the son of Leo and Mary Breault was born on July 9, 1933 and raised in Stratford, Connecticut along with his three siblings.
Dick graduated from Stratford High School in 1951. In high school he met the love of his life, Irene Hogberg. He attended the University of Connecticut, simultaneously working to support his family of origin. During the Korean War, Dick joined the United States Air Force, serving most of his four years in Albuquerque, New Mexico, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He returned home to Stratford to marry Irene in 1956. Together they relocated to New Mexico for the remainder of his service where their first child, Pamela, was born.
Following his discharge, they returned to Stratford. Dick worked for estate planner and author Norman F. Dacey. It was as Dacey's Associate that he adopted the life insurance strategy of "buy term, invest the difference." At the time, it was a radical concept advocating consumer welfare and exposing the insurance industry. Richard Breault was always a man of honesty and integrity and brought this investment philosophy to his own successful business ventures, founding R. L. Breault and Associates, and later Cheshire Management where he excelled in real estate partnerships. He used his knowledge of insurance and real estate partnerships in the creation of Investors Capital Corporation with his business partner John Cellino.
Dick's business success was largely due to his endless flow of positive energy, his creativity, and his integrity. He was continually involved in projects at the First Congregational Church (UCC) of Stratford, serving through multiple roles throughout his adult life. Dick brought his flair for artistic design and craftsmanship to the church, in which he found great joy through fellowship with the community of faith. From childhood, Dick's artistic talent was astounding. He excelled in multiple forms of artistic expression, combining skill and style. One of his greatest gifts was his innate understanding of spatial relations, culminating in the design of two unique and detailed houses in Shelton, Connecticut, and Sturbridge Commons, an office park in North Haven, that seamlessly blends multiple colonial styles of architecture.
Dick was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, finding great joy and exuberance in each role. He is survived by his wife Irene Breault; his daughter Pamela (Paul) Gallagher and his sons Richard (Kathy Nantz-Breault) Breault and the Reverend Bryan S. Breault; his grandchildren Michael (Ashley) Gallagher, Ryan (Lindsey) Gallagher, and Kate Gallagher, Sarah Breault, Scott Breault, Eric Breault; his great-granddaughters Paige and Molly Gallagher, and his former daughter-in-law Deborah Breault. He was predeceased by his older sister Yvonne (Harold) DeAngelis and is survived by his younger sister Annette (David) Hughes, and his younger brother Leo E. (Linda) Breault of Potosi, Missouri.
Due to the current pandemic, a memorial service will take place at a later time when his family and many friends can safely gather to celebrate his life and honor the wonderful man that he was. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the memorial fund of the First Congregational Church of Stratford (2301 Main St. Stratford, CT 06615, http://www.firstchurchstratford.org/pledges-donations/ ) To offer the family online condolences please visit www.dennisanddarcy.com
