Obituary







Raymond James Long, age 73 of Shelton previously of Bridgeport passed away on Sunday February 5, 2017 at Yale New Haven Hospital.Born in Norwalk, he was the son of the late Raymond F. Long and Eileen Darragh Long. Raymond worked in the lumber business for 30 plus years. He was a member of the Stratford Moose Club, and was a former Scout Master for over twenty years. Raymond was very involved with the Special Olympics and loved meeting and talking to people. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He enjoyed, coin and stamp collecting, camping and traveling to civil war and historic places. Survivors include two devoted sons; Raymond J. Long and his wife Liz and Jeffrey M. Long and his wife Veronica, two brothers; James (Carol) Long of Shelton, and Gary Long of Bridgeport, three sisters; Sandy Gorton of FL, Sally Long of Fairfield and Patty (Carl) Petrow of TN, eight grandchildren; Amber, Alyssa, Aidyn, Gavin, Jack, Emma, Padraic and Mary. Also survived by J.D. Barry who he considered his son and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by the mother of his children, Mary Barry and her husband James V. Barry and a brother, Robert Long.

Friends and relatives are invited to attended visiting hours on Friday February 10, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the Dennis & D'Arcy – Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main St. Stratford follow by a funeral service at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be made to the Connecticut Special Olympics, 2666 State Street, Suite #1, Hamden, CT 06517.
