Obituary

Paul W. Hackett, age 95 of Stratford passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at his home. He was the widower of Grace Mott Hackett, his beloved wife of 43 years. Born in Bridgeport on October 6, 1920, he was son of the late Frank T. Hackett and Aimee Cronk Hackett. He is predeceased by his 6 brothers and sisters. Paul proudly served with the US Army during WWII and was a graduate of Butler Business School (formerly Booth and Bayliss). He was an accountant with Wm. B Meyer of Stratford for over 30 years until his retirement. Paul was a faithful life-time member of Golden Hill United Methodist Church and a life member of VFW Post 9460 in Stratford. He was a volunteer at area nursing homes, member of Warden Harding High School Class of 1939 Reunion Committee and enjoyed his time coaching basketball through the YMCA church leagues. He was also a devoted Boston Red Sox Fan. He will be sadly missed by his loving children; Thomas Hackett and his wife Linda of Kingston, NY, Jane Wakeman and her husband Don of South Salem, NY and Amy Broadbent and her husband Eric of Trumbull and sisters in-law, Marjorie Hackett of Easton, Charlotte Mott of Queensbury, NY and brother-in-law Robert R. Mott of Canaan, CT. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Paul V. Hackett, Elizabeth J. (Les) Chuang, Rebecca B. Moy, Christan K. Moy, Rachel G. (David) Fritzler, Jonathan E. Broadbent, David M. Broadbent and Mary J. Broadbent, his precious great grandchildren; Desmond, Grace and Benaiah and several nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by long-time friend Patricia Longway of Bridgeport. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2016 from 4 to 8 pm at the Dennis & D'Arcy –Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford. Interment will be held privately in Mt. Grove Cemetery. A service in his memory will be held Friday, July 29, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Golden Hill United Methodist, 210 Elm Street, Bridgeport, 06604 with the Reverend Tisha Branch officiating.
