Norman C. Lance, Sr., 97, of Stratford, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2018 in Lord Chamberlain. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Shirley P. Lance. Born March 24, 1920, to the late Arlene (Wolfe) and Edgar C. Lance in Rife, PA., he moved to Bridgeport in the 1930's. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, including a stay in Panama and training in the Horse Cavalry at Fort Riley, Kansas. Norman was employed as a security guard at Sikorsky Aircraft for 31 years, served as a part time special police officer for the Town of Stratford and as a volunteer fireman in Ansonia, Ct.
In addition to his loving wife Shirley, who he faithfully supported during her battle with Alzheimers, he was predeceased by his parents and five siblings. Survivors include his son Skip ( Susan) of Stratford, Timothy (Darlene) of Derby, his grandchildren Katie Lance and Ben Carlton of Stratford, Chris Scholz (Kelly) of Monroe, Meghan Sullivan ( Patrick ) of Stratford and Matthew Lance of West Hartford. He is survived by two great grandchildren, Oliver and Eliza Carlton. In addition, he is also survived by his brother Robert and sister, Betty Hallquist, a sister in law Marion Elio of Shelton, and a very dear sister in law and husband, Rita and Harry Costello of Windsor Locks and their children.
Family and friends are invited to attend the wake service which will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 at Dennis and D'Arcy Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford. Interment will be private, at the convenience of the family.
