Norine J.
Myhre
d. Mar 13, 2024
Norine J. Myhre of Stratford, CT passed away peacefully with family by her side on March 13, 2024. She is predeceased by her husband Raymond K. Myhre, daughter Deborah K. Gaps, and grandson David Gaps Jr.
Norine was dedicated to her parents and 8 siblings, remembering often the love and care they had for each other. She is survived by her daughter Burdette James, her trusted son-in-law Steven, her sister Connie Schall, her grandchildren Adam James of Portland, CT, Daniel James of Stratford, CT, Joshua James of West Haven, CT and Beth Bjerke of Grand Forks, ND, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Being with "the kids" was her greatest joy! She is lovingly remembered by all as Grandma Nor.
Norine was born in Landa, North Dakota on November 6, 1929, lived in Dickinson, North Dakota for many years and moved to Connecticut at the age of 82, when she finally decided to retire. Norine was a plucky lady who loved to laugh and tell fabulously funny stories at family gatherings. She had many jobs including, bookkeeper, laundromat owner, newspaper distributor, restaurant worker, and being an aide at an assisted living facility (probably older than many of the residents there). Norine's lifelong hobby was crocheting. She made beautiful bedspreads, tablecloths, doilies, hats and over 100 prayer shawls that were distributed to residents at Wesley Heights. She was a life-long believer in exercise, taking daily 2 mile walks into her 90's. She was a strong, independent woman who left a legacy of generosity, sparkle and love of life.
Her favorite charity was St. Jude Children's Research Hospital if you wish to make a donation to honor her.
A Memorial Service will be held for Norine on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Stratford United Methodist Church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of her family. To offer online condolences to the family or share memories please visit http://www.dennisanddarcy.com
