Obituary

Migdalia Ramos Colon passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her children, on October 11th, 2022, at the age of 81, in Hartford, Connecticut.

Migdalia was born on April 24th, 1941, in Salinas, Puerto Rico, and spent her childhood on her beloved island before moving to Philadelphia at the age of 18 where she worked at the Singer Company factory as a sewing machine operator.  She then relocated to Waterbury, Connecticut where she worked for many years in the appliance demonstration department at the Connecticut Light & Power Company.  As a young woman, Migdalia developed a strong sense of civic duty, and took pride in her work as both a United States census taker and a local campaign manager for President John F. Kennedy.

In 1971, Migdalia married her soulmate, Pablo de Jesús Colón Hijo and they eventually settled in Stratford, CT where they lovingly raised their three children and celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage prior to Pablo's passing in 2021.

Migdalia was also a small business owner who established and ran an in-home daycare business.  She touched the lives of many children and families by helping raise those in her care as if they were her own. Their bonds were so strong that she remained in contact with several of her daycare children throughout her life and she was so proud of their accomplishments as adults.  Migdalia and Pablo tackled the world together, and in 1991 she joined him at the company he founded, (Radio Cumbre Broadcasting 103.3 FM & 1450 AM in Bridgeport, CT) where she served as Vice President for 30 years. Together, they made an incredible impact on the community they served.

Migdalia's profound sense of family began early on with her many nieces and nephews, who she loved dearly and were such a huge part of her life. She loved her role as "Titi Mickie", and showered her nieces, nephews, and their children with love and affection. She also made a point of hosting countless family gatherings so that her children could grow up with their cousins and understand the importance of a connected and loving extended family.

Migdalia was also a kind, gentle, and loving grandmother, known as Abuelita or Abo, to her adoring grandchildren and loved every moment she spent with them. She loved nature and gardening, sewing and cooking, music and spending time sharing these interests with her grandchildren.

Of all the roles she had in life, Migdalia's favorite by far, was being an amazing "Mami" to her children, loving them unconditionally and with every fiber of her being.  She and Pablo sacrificed much to ensure their children had the opportunity to reach their full potential and lead happy, successful lives.  We will miss her Bendiciónes (Blessings), her check-ins to be sure we got home safely, and her warm smile that made your heart feel her love.  Words cannot express how much she will be missed.

Migdalia is predeceased by her husband Pablo de Jesús Colón Hijo and siblings: Enrique Casiano, Hilda Reyes, Irma Torres, and Miriam Cortes.

Migdalia is survived by her children: Pablo Colón III (Erin), Migdalia Fletcher (Casey), Javier Colón (Maureen) and grandchildren: Dalia, Logan, Annabelle, Gabriel, Solana, Amaia and Mathias.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Prosperidad Latina Fund housed at Fairfield County's Community Foundation. Migdalia and her children established this fund in honor of her late husband Pablo to support nonprofits serving the Latino community in Connecticut and beyond. www.fccfoundation.org/ProsperidadLatinaFund To offer the family online condolences please visit www.dennisanddarcy.com
