Maureen Elizabeth (White) Steiz, age 76, passed away in Wallingford on Wednesday, May 19, 2021. Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late George and Margaret Gilmartin White. She grew up in Success Park and graduated from Harding High School in 1962. While her children were young, Maureen worked at Vincent's Market later going to work for Sikorsky Aircraft where she worked her way up to an inspector, a job for which she was perfectly suited. She retired to Naperville, IL and had the opportunity to travel visiting various places in the US as well as many different countries. She enjoyed socializing with family and friends, playing bingo and bowling. Those who knew her knew that they could always trust Maureen to give them her honest opinion. She was an active member of the Stratford Firefighters Ladies Auxiliary and the Legion of Mary. Maureen was a proud Mom and Nana who especially cherished her grandchildren and the time she spent with them. She is survived by daughters, Cynthia (Dennis) Hood of Naperville, IL, Jennifer (John) Gotch of Stratford and Sheila (Robert) Kelemen of Branford; grandchildren, Kayleigh and Thomas Hood, Elizabeth Nagy and Michael Gotch, Anthony (Sann), Kaitlyn and Holly Kelemen; as well as several in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother George White, her sister Geraldine (Gerri) Lowe, former husband Nicholas Steiz, nephew Edward White and godson Scott Steiz.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday May 25, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Dennis & D'Arcy – Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main St. Stratford. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mark's Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford. Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery.
