Obituary

Mary Mourges Woessner, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Father's Day, June 21. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Susan and her husband Charles.
Mary grew up in New Rochelle, the only daughter of an enterprising and loving Greek immigrant father and restauranteur and German-American mother. With a passion for reading and travelling, she was top in her class of 450 students and went on to work at corporations in New York City as an executive secretary. During a cruise to Bermuda with her girlfriend, she met a young Air Force soldier and WWII vet from rural Illinois, eventually living in Bermuda, marrying, and moving to Connecticut in 1953.
A 67-year resident of Lordship, Mary was an active member of Lordship Community Church, American Shakespeare Guild, American Cancer Society, and Stratford Library. Mary's passion was travelling the world, and she enjoyed over 60 cruise voyages and many other land trips all over the world; she especially loved the trivia contests and fancy dinners. A voracious reader and expert knitter, she was a Jeopardy wiz and completed the NY Times hardest crossword puzzles weekly. She loved her church deeply, and spent the last 4 years as a resident of Atria assisted living.
Mary is survived by two loving sons Randall and Garry (Minnesota), grandchildren David Woessner, Tim Woessner (Jordan), Emily Schuler (Mike), Gretchen, and Grant, as well as great grandchildren Skye, Madeline and Landon. Special thanks to our two "angels," Heather and Amanda, who cared lovingly for Mary during the past 4 years.
A private ceremony has been held and a public memorial will be held in October around Mary's birthday. In lieu of flowers, dedications can be made to Lordship Community Church, 179 Prospect Drive, Stratford, CT 06615 or at www.thelordshipchurch.org.
