Mary Barnabei Sullivan, age 94 passed on Friday, February 7,2020. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years, John L. Sullivan M.D. Mary was Born on January 16,1926 in New Haven to the late Anita and Sabatino Barnabei of Ascoli Piceno, Italy. Mary was the youngest of six preceded in death by her three sisters, Italia Compano, Triestine Conte, Yolanda Alleshunas, two brothers Americo, Raymond Barnabei and grandson Jeffrey J. Cupitt. The matriarch of our family Mary leaves behind seven loving children; Megan Flammang, John L. Sullivan Jr., Timothy Sullivan, Maureen Scinto, Marie Ogalin and her husband (Jeffrey Ogalin), Mary Murphy(Peter Murphy), Margaret Sullivan, twenty-eight grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, a beloved cousin Fr.Raymond Lelii as well as many loved cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws. Mary graduated from Hillsborough County General Hospital in New Hampshire with a degree in nursing and went onto Boston City Hospital and New Haven Hospital. It was in New Haven that she met the love of her life Dr. John Sullivan when he stepped into a bucket in the neurosurgical O.R. and she helped him out then and later on as his nurse when he opened his private practice. Min, as he affectionately referred to her, enjoyed cooking for her family, entertaining friends and spending summers on Beaver Dam, with a dog always by her side. Anchored by her Catholic faith Mary was active in her church community and worked to become a Carmelite lay person in her later years. We will forever miss our Italian Stallion, a self proclaimed snackarina who's legacy of love will carry on in all those she left behind. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00a.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Trumbull, interment will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven.
