Marie M. Speer, age 95, of Shelton, CT, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2023. Born in Bridgeport, CT on March 21, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Peter T. Brady and Catherine Cullinan. She was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Robert J. Speer.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marie was predeceased by her sister, Katherine E. Brady.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Kate Stanczyk and her husband Mark of Syracuse, NY and their children and spouses Michael and Dalinda Stanczyk, Patrick Stanczyk and his wife Meghan Hall, James and his spouse Elizabeth McDonald, Daniel and Jenna Stanczyk, Maura and Nick Schuetter, and Elizabeth and Daniel McKeever, son Robert Speer of Fairfield and children Ryan and Courtney Carey, Emma, James, and Genevieve Speer, daughter Eileen Meehan and her husband Skip of Stratford and their children Colin and Meg Meehan and Kate and Jake Griswold, and son Timothy Speer and his wife Maggie of Milford and sons Tim Jr. and John.  Marie is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren, Devon and Thomas Stanczyk, Shea and Rory Stanczyk, Valerie, Ceci, Nate, and Colin Schuetter, Hazel, Rusty, and Lacey McKeever, Kayleigh Carey, Maeve and Brynn Meehan, and Rosie and Rhett Griswold,

Marie proudly grew up in the South End of Bridgeport.  She attended Sacred Heart Grammar School, Bassick High School, and St. Vincent's School of Nursing. Upon graduation from St. Vincent's, she worked in their emergency room.  She later worked at Park Avenue Convalescent Home. After retiring from nursing, she worked in Central High School's cafeteria.

For the past 7 years, she had been a resident at Bishop Wicke Health Center. We would like to sincerely thank every staff member who played an integral part in caring for her there. Their patience, kindness, and compassion never went unnoticed and will remain in our hearts always. You truly are angels on Earth.

She was a voracious reader and loved playing pinochle, spending summer days on the beach with her beloved sister Kakie, attending her grandchildren's sporting events, and watching the New York Mets, the New York Giants, the UCONN women's and men's basketball games, and dogs. They have all lost an ardent and dedicated fan.

But most of all, she loved her family. She especially loved her role as Grandma and Great Grandma. All who loved her dearly will never forget her wonderful laugh, her amazing work ethic, and her capacity to love.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gabriel Church, 26 Broadway, Milford, CT 06460, followed by interment at Mt. Grove Cemetery, 2675 North Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06604.
