Obituary

Madeline "MEG"  Griswold died at home on Monday January 18, 2021 at the age of 96. Born in New Haven in 1924, she was the second daughter of Irene Giusto Evans and Walter Evans. She lived almost her entire life in Stratford. She grew up in the Lordship section, and after living 8 years in New Haven and Milford, returned to live in Stratford for her remaining 65 years.
She married Gordon Griswold in July 1950, which resulted in a warm and loving marriage that lasted sixty years until Gordon passed away. Madeline worked in the Bridgeport Airport facility for more than 25 years in the flight divisions of NL Industries and Textron Aviation. This included ten years as a corporate flight attendant, flying throughout the United States and Canada. While working, she was president of the Chapel Street School PTA for two years and later president of the Connecticut chapter of the AIA Woman's Guild.
After retirement, she volunteered for many years at Bridgeport Hospital and the Jewish home in Bridgeport. She loved cooking, gardening, playing  tennis and golfing with her husband. MEG loved traveling the world with Gordon, including visiting China, Egypt, India with additional trips throughout Europe. She practiced aerobics at the Baldwin Center in Stratford and was huge NY Giants and Yankees fan.
Madeline was a strong personality, solicitous of her friends, straightforward and her opinions and a caring mother to her children. She loved John Wayne movies, all things 'Frank Sinatra' and later developed a love for Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. MEG also enjoyed the occasional evening martini with Gordon.
She is survived by her two sons, Kimberly and his wife Elzbieta, and Jonathan and his wife Karen and their three children, Alison, Andrew and Benjamin. Services will be private and a celebration of her life is planned for the summer.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Sterling House, the Baldwin Center or the Wounded Warriors Project.
