Louis "Lou/Louie" Varvella, Sr., 79, passed away Friday March 24, 2023 of natural causes. He was born February 15, 1944 in Bridgeport, CT to the late Alphonse and Antoinette (LaRocco) Varvella.

He graduated from Bridgeport's Warren G. Harding High School, Class of 1963, where he was an outstanding athlete, most notably a star football player.  He was born and raised in Bridgeport, a true and proud resident and he lived there most of his life, happily raising his family there.  He later moved to Stratford, Fairfield, and Shelton.  He was larger than life, and he lived his life well with few regrets, devoted to his family, friends, and the many roles which that life offered him. He loved food and cooking, movies, sports, history; and he had a great spirit of adventure.  He loved birthdays, holidays, and all of the seasons.

He is survived by two children, Lora Ann Varvella of Stratford and Lawrence Varvella of Shelton; a sister Lois (William) DiLella of Stratford and a brother Butchy Varvella of Stratford; three cherished granddaughters Leana Varvella of Belmar, NJ and Loren Marie Smith and Lilliana Varvella of Stratford;   nieces,  Christine (Weller) Arsenault and her family( Roger, Melissa and Zach) also  many nephews and  cousins.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two beloved sons Louis Anthony Varvella, Jr. and Leonard Anthony Varvella, and his sister Anna Marie (Varvella) Weller.

There will be no calling hours, and interment will be at the convenience of the family.  A memorial service for him and his sons will be held over the summer.  The family extends their sincerest gratitude to all of the medical community who cared for him over the last years of his life.
