Lois
Boxwell
d. Dec 2, 2018
It is with deep sadness that the family of Lois Alberté Boxwell (Berndtson), announces her passing, at age 92, in her Milford home on December 1, 2018. Born on August 18, 1926, in New Haven, CT, Lois was the daughter of the late Louis W. and Edith J. (Earnest) Berndtson.
The wife of the late Blaine W. Boxwell, Sr., Lois will long be remembered for her devotion to the nurturing and happiness of her loving and grateful family. She is survived by her children Meg Williams (John) and Blaine W. Boxwell, Jr., (Robin), grandsons Blaine W. Boxwell III (Rachel) of Plainville, Justin Boxwell of East Haven, Nicholas Williams of Gorham, ME, Samuel Williams of Holmes, NY, great-granddaughter Brianna Boxwell of R.I. and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Doris Berndtson, brother Bill Berndtson and eldest grandson Robert P. Boxwell.
Lois was a graduate of Commercial High School in New Haven and attended Southern Connecticut Teachers' College. She worked in banking in New Haven and later as a bookkeeper for automobile dealerships and retired after many years of dedicated service from Partyka Chevrolet in Hamden. Lois also served as clerk for the Borough of Woodmont. An avid reader, she frequented the Woodmont and Milford libraries where she made many friends. A lifelong devotee of music, Lois was a soloist and sang in several area choirs. Saturdays were not complete without attending tag sales where she relished finding a "collectible", never spending more than a dollar.
Lois loved her Woodmont community, a good joke, the family cat, the daily crossword puzzle and was rarely beaten at Scrabble but her pride and joy was always her family, especially her grandsons, to whom she taught pinochle and how to bake traditional Swedish spice cookies (peppar kakor). A true friend to many, she will be deeply missed by all.
A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 2301 Main Street, Stratford on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a reception. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ellen Aftamanow Woodmont Volunteer Library, 16 Dixon Street, Milford, CT, would be appreciated.
