Obituary

Lois A. Bechtel, 89 of Trumbull CT, passed away peacefully at home on July 27, 2022.

Known by many as 'Lolo' and left to cherish her memory are her children; Steve & Maureen Bechtel of Atlanta Georgia, Brett Bechtel of Wallingford CT, Eric Bechtel of Allandale NJ and Shari & Paul Ouellette of Trumbull, CT. Her 9 grandchildren include Preston (25), Sean (24), Victoria (23), Carter (22), Taylor (21), Tristan (20), Todd (19), Michelle (19) and Corinn (18).  She was predeceased by her parents Karl & Rosemary Hey, in-laws Gordon & Inez Bechtel and son Gary Scott Bechtel.

Lois was born January 19, 1933 in Cleveland OH and graduated from Ohio University in 1954 with a degree in Speech Pathology.  She married Gary Bechtel in 1955 and began her work as a speech pathologist in the school system.  She began her family shortly after. As her family grew and several relocations due to Gary's career, they came to CT in 1977 and settled in Weston.  After raising her children, she began working again at Weston High School in the guidance office, followed by Trenwick International Limited and ending her work career at Redding Congregational Church.  After 23 years in Weston, she eventually made her way to Trumbull where she lived a happy, active life.  She had a passion for cooking and loved hosting gatherings and preparing a variety of creative dishes for her guests.  She was known for her generous and welcoming spirit as she loved to entertain. Christmas was a special time for her where she worked hours into the night baking her famous cookies that she delivered to anxiously waiting family and friends. Among her passions, one closest to her heart was Norfield Congregational Church (Weston CT) which was the center of her life outside of the family. Upon becoming a member of the church when arriving in CT, she was involved in Unstructured Group, Superintendent of the Sunday School for 6 years, Soup Kitchen, Habitat, Trustees, Sheppard program, Sigma or Small Group, Hand Bell Choir, Church Choir, Bible Study and the running the Country Kitchen at the Annual Norfield Church Fair.  She was also a proud member, just recently, celebrating her 60 th Anniversary with P.E.O. (Philanthropic Education Organization) that she joined when she lived in St Louis, MO.

She was incredibly fond of animals and always had dogs throughout her life and now reunited with them all.  They include Regan, Thika, Friskie, Kenya, Butkis and her last dog Casper who she adored till the end.

The main theme of her life was her love of family and community and as she blessed those around her, she was always very grateful for the many blessings that were returned to her 20-fold.  She had enormous energy and was always ready to lend a helping hand, friendly smile and encouraging word.
