Lillie Rose VanDine, age 97 of Shelton formerly of Stratford passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Bishop Wicke Health Center. She was the widow of Rev. Leslie VanDine. Born in Stratford on October 6, 1916 she was the daughter of the late John and Rose Klein Lawrence. Lillie was a retired administrative assistant for the Stratford Board of Education. She was strong and self reliant entering the work force and helping her family through college after her husbands death. Lillie found found great joy and pride in her family and attracted many friends with her sweet disposition and beautiful smile.She is survived by her loving children; Beverly Schneider of Holland, MI and her husband Richard, Leslie VanDine and his wife Linda of Manchester, David VanDine of Hyannis, MA, and her sister; Ruth Villano of Tarpon Springs, FL. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Amanda Schneider Winter and her husband Tom, Kari Schneider, Adam VanDine, Heather VanDine and Sarah VanDine, also her great grandchildren; Lillie, Ellie and Tommy Winter. In addition to her beloved husband she was predeceased by her brother Walter Lawrence, sister, Emma McCann and her daughter in-law, Marilyn VanDine. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Bishop Wicke and Crosby Commons for providing loving care over the last several years. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Dennis & D'Arcy – Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford with Rev. Ed Rawls officiating. Interment will follow in Kings Highway Cemetery, Milford. Friends may greet the family Monday morning from 10 to 11 am prior to services.
