Obituary

Kevin H. Sherman, age 66, of Stratford & formerly of Shelton, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, at Bridgeport Hospital on Sunday, January 11, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Susan M. (Lamson) Sherman.

Born in Derby on May 6, 1959, Kevin was a son of the late George Sherman Sr. and Michaeline (Karkut) Sherman. He proudly served the City of Shelton as a police officer for 25 years. During his career, he worked on several task forces including the Valley Street Crime Unit along with his faithful K9 Officer Shaker, and assisted US Customs. He served as a certified underwater search and recovery diver for the Shelton Police Department Dive Team and concluded his service as a dedicated training officer. Kevin's calling to serve extended beyond law enforcement: he volunteered with the Special Olympics, Toys for Tots, and completed a long-distance bike ride, from New Jersey to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, DC with the Police Unity Tour to raise awareness about law enforcement officers that died in the line of duty.

Kevin also devoted decades of service to his community. He was a volunteer firefighter and past Captain for the Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Co. 1 Fire Department in Shelton, recently receiving the honor of Lifetime &  50-year member recognition awards. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Vice President of the School Board for St. Mary–St. Michael School in Derby and was an enthusiastic girls' basketball coach for many years. Many young women may still hear "get on the line!" in their nightmares... or perhaps that's just his daughters.

Above all, Kevin was a family man who adored his daughters. He lived with loyalty, humor, and a deep sense of duty. He loved his community, cherished his friends, and inspired many through his commitment to service, mentorship, and his unwavering dedication.

In addition to his wife Susan of 37 years, Kevin is survived by his daughters, Nicole and Courtney Sherman; his sister, Debra Cole and her husband Ron of Arizona; his brothers, Walter Sherman and his wife Noreen of Southbury, John (Jay) Sherman and his wife Deborah of Oxford; his sister-in-law Elaine Sherman; as well as many nieces and nephews and a large extended family who will miss him terribly. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, George Sherman, Jr.

Kevin's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Maefair Center for Health & Rehabilitation for their kindness, respect, and exceptional care. They would also like to thank Laura Pendleton for her care, compassion, and friendship over the last 5 years.
