Kathryn Ann
Allen
d. Dec 31, 2020
Kathryn (Kay) Ann Allen (nee Anthony) 1925-2020
It is with great sadness that we announce Kathryn (Kay) Ann Anthony Allen, long time resident
of Stratford, CT passed away unexpectedly on December 31, 2020, at age 95. For the last six
years, she enjoyed being a resident at Green View Commons in Branford, CT.
Kathryn is survived by her loving children: daughter Kathryn Marie Allen of Guilford, CT and her
sons Roy (Rose) of Katy, TX and Michael (Irene) of New Canaan, CT; her grandchildren Kelley,
Zachary and Alexandra and great grandchild, Emma, and the nieces and nephews of her
brothers. She is predeceased by brothers Bernard (Bernie) Anthony and William (Bill) Anthony
Jr. and step-brothers Joe Heckler and Bill Heckler; her father William J Anthony, Sr. and mother
Kathryn Quinn Anthony and her stepmother, Helen Anthony.
Kay was born in Stratford in 1925 to William and Kathryn Anthony. She graduated from
Stratford High School in 1943 and went to work as a secretary for Judge Weldon in Bridgeport,
CT. After many years raising her children she joined Avco/Lycoming in 1961 and enjoyed a
twenty-eight year career in executive secretarial positions. She remained close to the
wonderful friends she met there to this day. During ten years of retirement she was a volunteer for the CT Ombudsman program visiting St. Joseph's Center nursing facility several times a week to help ensure the quality of life for women residents.
She survived breast cancer in 1965, colon cancer surgery in her mid-80's and breast cancer
surgery at 94 in March, 2020. Each time she was amazing in her faith, resilience and bounced
back with a positive outlook.
Kay enjoyed traveling early on with a cross-country rail trip as well as many sailing excursions
through the intercostal waterway up and down the east coast. Overseas travel began with a
trip to Australia to visit her daughter, then Japan (part of a round the world trip) and then trips
to Spain, Italy, London, Prague and Budapest, Ireland and Scotland spread over many years.
Mostly she loved spending as much time as possible with her family throughout the years,
especially her grandchildren.
Kathryn was a devoted mother and had a deep faith as a lifelong Catholic. She was admired
for raising her three children as a single mother, her wonderful sense of humor, her enjoyment
of sending birthday cards, her faith and loving her friends and family. She will be greatly
missed by her family and all who knew her.
No funeral or wake is planned per her request. A memorial service will be held at a later time.
She will be buried at St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford, CT alongside her mother, Kathryn
Anthony and brother, William (Bill) Anthony, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
