Obituary

Justin Michael Spray, 35, of Milford, was taken from his loved ones on May 25, 2022, by a mentally ill person with a gun at his home. He was the dearly beloved son of Janet Pataky Spray of Milford.

Born in Bridgeport on Sept. 28, 1986, Justin was a graduate of Jonathan Law High School and Gateway Community College. He worked at Danenhofer Associates and Performance Environmental Services and also did freelance computer support work. He was a computer whiz and the go-to IT support person for many of his family and friends.

Justin was very witty and had a unique sense of humor.  He enjoyed karate, cooking and exploring new cuisines and teas with his mom.  He loved a diversity of musical genres and playing the piano and organ, along with building computers and inventing computer games. He was always happy to help others, and he loved cats (but not dogs).

Besides his mother, he is survived by his father, Glen Spray (Candia Lord) of Shelton; his maternal grandfather, Richard Pataky of Trumbull; loving aunts Carole (Joseph) Markland, Margaret Pataky, Kathleen (Richard) Pivarnik and great aunt Nancy Dale; uncles Keith Spray, Scott (Nancy) Spray, and great uncle Thomas (Christine) Dale. Also left behind to mourn his passing are his much-loved first cousins, Alicia, Briana, and Richard Pivarnik Jr, Alaina Pataky, Daniel Lampart, Samantha Markland, Andrea Spray, Jason Spray and Dawn Costantiello; step-brother Daniel Lord, and several other second cousins, aunts and uncles with whom he so enjoyed spending time.

Justin was predeceased by his loving and awesome brother, Steven Spray; his maternal grandmother, Linda Pataky; and paternal grandparents John and Eleanor Spray and Kathleen Spray.

A memorial service will take place Sunday, June 5, at Dennis & D'Arcy -  Abriola and Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford. Friends and family are welcome to visit between 1 and 4 p.m. A prayer service will follow at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Ashley Grant of First United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, Justin's family suggests a memorial contribution made in his  name to The Sandy Hook Promise (sandyhookpromise.org), Mental Health Connecticut (mhconn.org), The Beardsley Zoo (beardsleyzoo.org) or a charity of one's choice.
