Joyce Alison Shea, age 87, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015, peacefully at her home surrounded by family and friends. Born in Stratford on August 17, 1928, daughter of Vernon Philo and Aleta Carey Philo. Joyce was a life-long resident of Stratford. She graduated from
Stratford High School in 1945 and from the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. She worked as a pediatric nurse at Bridgeport Hospital for 15 years, then for John Moore Orthopedic
Surgical practice and finally for Aetna Life and Casualty as a Medical Claims Representative.
She retired from Aetna in 1992. Joyce loved exploring the world and traveled frequently with her friends Frank and Pearl Giannini and Rosemary Hanrahan. She was a voracious reader and an avid sports fan spending many wonderful days rooting for the Mets, Patriots, Fairfield Prep football, where her son and grandsons played and all the other teams her grandchildren played for. She travelled far and wide to watch them all compete.
Joyce is survived by her son William Thomas Shea and his wife Jana Shea of Branford, CT and their two sons Brendan Shea from Branford and Conor Shea from Arlington, VA. She is survived also by a daughter Tracy Shea Rooney and her husband Lawrence Rooney of Guilford, CT and their four children: Kate Rooney from Branford, CT, Sam Rooney from Branford, CT, Jack
Rooney from Boston, MA and Leigh Rooney from Burlington, VT. Memorial services will take place on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 11:00 am at Christ Episcopal Church, 2000 Main Street, Stratford with Father Scott Lee officiating.
