Joseph F. Caruso of Shelton passed away on May 25, 2017 at Griffin Hospital.
Born on September 23, 1930 in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Francesco and Francesca Passafiume Caruso. Mr. Caruso graduated from Harding High School, Fairfield University, and University of Bridgeport where he received a Master's Degree in Microbiology. He was co-owner of several local laboratories, including Barnum Medical Laboratories in Bridgeport, and worked for many years as a lab technician at St. Vincent's Hospital. He retired in 2002 as Director of Laboratories for the City of Bridgeport.
He was predeceased by his loving spouse of 56 years Dolores Magi Caruso and sisters Rose Caruso Iodice and Rita Caruso Quatrella. Survivors include five children; Frank and Nancy Caruso, both of Shelton, Joseph Caruso and his wife Robin of Florida, John and Laura Caruso, both of Florida, four grandchildren; James, Joseph, and Jason Callahan and Preston Caruso, sisters Caroline Caruso Wakefield of Southbury and Angeline Caruso Schillaci and her husband Alessandro Schillaci of Bridgeport, a brother-in-law Baldissero Magi and his wife Mary of Fairfield, a sister-in-law Val Magi of Shelton, and several nieces and nephews.
He will be fondly remembered by all for many things, including hosting summer holiday picnics at his home in Shelton.
A graveside service will be held for Mr. Caruso on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford. To offer online condolences please visit www.dennisanddarcy.com.
