John E. Farkas, age 91 of Stratford passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at St. Vincent Medical Center. He was the widower of Theresa Dolores Mailloux Farkas. Born in Bridgeport on August 4, 1924 he was a son of the late Joseph and Julia Tury Farkas. John was a proud US Army Veteran serving during WWII in France and Germany. He and his 3 brothers are honored with bricks at the Bridgeport WWII Memorial on Broad St. in downtown Bridgeport. He worked for several companies and shops in the Bridgeport area. His final position was that of a foreman in the parts department at the US Baird Corp for 25 years until his retirement in 1990. John was a treasure to all who know him, even down to his nurses in St. Vincent's Hospital, who thought he was the "Cutest thing!" He had a smile that was contagious! He always put his family first and was always there for anyone of them, whatever their needs may have been. In his more active years he was an avid golfer, won his share of bowling league trophies and pitched and played other positions on several shop baseball teams. His love of sports included being a life-long Yankee Fan. People thought his apartment was a shrine to the Bronx Bombers. He was one of a kind and loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his devoted and loving daughter JoAnne Rollins and her husband Jim of West Haven. He was an exceptional and active grandfather to Jennifer Rollins of West Haven and Sandy Biggie and her husband Brian of Wakefield, MA. He is also survived by his brother Stephen (Pete) Farkas of Idaho, brother in-law and good friend; Joseph Seiger of Milford, brother in-law Richard Mailloux and his wife Dot of Fort Plain, NY and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife Dolores and his parents he was predeceased by his siblings; Joseph Farkas, Eugene Farkas, Regina Takacs, Julia Cratty, Helen Galemba and Irene Seiger.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Dennis & D'Arcy – Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford with Deacon Raymond Chervenak officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford.
Friends may greet the family on Friday, June 24, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
