Obituary

John Robie Buckley beloved husband of Laurie Halko Buckley died unexpectedly at his home in Monroe on August 27, 2018. In addition to his loving wife of 23 years he leaves behind his son Patrick Buckley, grandson Michael Buckley and Michael's mother Paula Haschak; his daughter Melissa Orrino and husband Nicholas; his stepdaughters Melissa Cole, husband Richard and grandson Tyler; Jennifer Sneider, companion John Mudgett and grand-daughter Brianna, Victoria Sneider-Acuzzo, companion Scott Yitts and grand-daughter Nicole Acuzzo and grandson Kevin Shelomis. He also leaves behind his sisters Katharine Horvath, husband John and nephew Stephen; Jane Merritt, husband John and niece Brynn Campbell and her husband Taylor; his sister-in-law Barbara Bodine, niece Jessica Duly and great-niece Haylee Bango; his brother-in-law Paul Halko, wife Annette, nieces Heather, Kristina, Michele and nephew Michael; and his former wife Jane Kunkel and husband Paul, several cousins and many close friends.

He was predeceased by his father Frank Buckley, mother Martha Wood Buckley, step-mother Mary Ann Christie Buckley, and stepdaughter Carrie Ann Shelomis.

This incredible man was born in Pompton Plains, NJ on March 26, 1958. He also lived briefly in Illinois before he moved with his family to Westport. He graduated from Staples High School in 1976.

John was a very talented woodworker and handyman. He was always available to help any of his family members with a project and was loved deeply by all of them. At the time of his death he was employed by Kowalsky Construction in Westport, where he often saw many high school acquaintances. Previously he worked for Connecticut Tank Removal and Carpenter Construction.

He had been a longtime member of the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department where he started as a firefighter and worked his way up to being a Captain.

A celebration of John's life will be held at the Monroe Volunteer Firehouse, 18 Shelton Road (Route 110) Monroe, CT 06468 on Saturday September 1, 2018 from 1:00 until 5:00.
