Johanna (Salamone) Plaitis, age 67, of Stratford, CT, passed away peacefully with her companion and family by her side on March 10, 2026, at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Bridgeport on June 18, 1958, she was the daughter of the late George and Jennie (Baird) Salamone.

She is survived by her  companion, Craig Bodington,  her daughter, Lena Salamone of Milford, and her son, Angelo Tranquillo and his wife, Tina, of Oxford. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Jason and his companion Venus, Allyson and her companion Michael, and Angelo, as well as her great-grandchildren, AJ and Lorenzo. Johanna is also survived by her sister, Mary Bango and her husband, Richard; her brother, Samuel Salamone; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Grace Kelemen,  Rose Salamone, Betty Galanek and Jeannie Salamone and brother George  as well as her husbands, Gerald Tranquillo and Matthew Plaitis.

Johanna grew up in Fairfield and had been a resident of Stratford for more than 30 years. She was a loving wife, companion, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Johanna was often found outside in the garden with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, tending to flowers and enjoying the beauty of nature, or in the kitchen preparing meals that brought everyone together around the table. She especially loved caring for the many rose bushes in her yard and working in her vegetable garden.

Johanna was also a horse racing enthusiast who spent many bright summer days in Saratoga. She enjoyed traveling to sandy beaches, visiting casinos, and playing bingo whenever she could. Johanna was happiest when surrounded by family and serving her homemade meatballs.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday March 13, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Dennis & D'Arcy – Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main St. Stratford.  Funeral services  will be held at 7:00 p.m. following  the visitation.
