Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, Joan Hamilton Lohnes, age 87, passed away peacefully, on her birthday, February 7, 2017, at home with her family by her side. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Hamilton Mueller, her seven children, John, Christopher (Lenore) Elizabeth (Stephen Cinque), Timothy (Darlene) Mary (Ken McCollon), Luke (Laura) and Frances and her adored 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and her cherished nieces and nephews.

Joan began her university level studies at Connecticut College (Class of 1952) and completed her B.A. at University of Bridgeport (Class of 1987). She received her R.N. from Valley College in Los Angeles, CA.

Her capacity for love was unending. From her career as a Mother/Baby nurse at Greenwich Hospital to the 21 foster children she lovingly cared for, Joan believed that her work as a mother and nurse was her calling. And she was brilliant at it. She opened her arms to all that were in need. Her intelligence, her humor, her love all of things Shakespeare, her gardening and her gentle beauty was shared with all who knew her. It is these memories that we will all hold on to when we think of her. She was a gift and she was loved.

She was a faithful member of Christ Episcopal Church (Stratford, CT) and a memorial service will be held in the spring at a date and time to be announced. Burial to follow in the Christ Church Memorial Garden among the flowers that she lovingly planted.
