Jean Marie Stone, age 92, of Bridgeport, formerly of Stratford, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026, at Lord Chamberlain Nursing Home in Stratford. Today she joins her beloved husband, James Frances Stone, in eternal peace.

Born in Newburgh, New York on June 30, 1934, Jean was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Irene McDowell Ruff. Growing up as the second oldest of eight children, she shared a special bond with her family and was preceded in death by her sisters Kathleen Dillon, Janice Laskay, and Laraine Korpany, as well as her brothers Robert, Donald, Kenneth, and Richard Ruff.

Jean brought warmth and community to everything she did. She was a devoted, faithful member of Black Rock Congregational Church in Fairfield, where she loved singing in the choir. For over 10 years, she was a dedicated school bus driver for Durham Bus Company in Stratford. Jean found simple joys in life—doting on her beloved Chihuahua, Angel, enjoying warm winters in Florida, and taking leisurely walks around Stratford.

Jean is survived by her loving children, Wendy Jean Vezina (Gabriel) of Stratford, James F. Stone III (Izabella) of California, and Linda Lee Petri of Texas. Her warmth lives on through her 10 grandchildren—Leann and Anthony Vezina; Bianca and Nicholas Stone; Karen and David Chagnon; and Noelle, Ian, Lea, and Laura Petri—as well as her 3 cherished great-grandchildren, Ethan, Iyanna, and Eli Chagnon.

She now rests reunited with her late daughter Judith Ann Chagnon, her son-in-law Mark Joseph Chagnon, and her son David Brian Stone.

Friends are invited to attend graveside services on Monday, September 21, 2026 at 12:00 noon in Union Cemetery, 23 Temple Court, Stratford.
