Obituary

Mrs. Jean (Simmons) Rusnak Slavis, 93, of Stratford, quietly passed away on August 30 at the Hewitt Health & Rehab Center in Shelton, CT. Born in Patton, PA to Harry and Ellen Simmons, Jean was the eighth of ten children. She moved to Stratford after her marriage to Joseph Rusnak, Jr. where she lived most of her adult life, working for many years as an inspector for Remington Arms in Bridgeport. Jean was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking for her family. Her specialties included stuffed cabbage, nut roll and roast turkey, but she was especially renowned for her apple pies. It was not uncommon for each person at her holiday table to have his or her own favorite dessert, all of them different! Jean was predeceased by both her first and second husbands, Joseph Rusnak, Jr. and Charles Slavis, as well as her oldest son, Joseph N. Rusnak, and her daughter-in-law, Elena (DelVecchio) Rusnak. She leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, William and Anita Rusnak of Stratford, grandson Joseph J. Rusnak of Huntersville, NC, granddaughter Catherine Craig and great-grandsons Collin Joseph Craig and Kyle William Craig, all of Wethersfield. Burial will be private, and there will be no calling hours. The Dennis-D'Arcy Abriola-Kelemen Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
