Jean Shepherdson
Dana
Mar 12, 1931 — Nov 26, 2022
Jean Shepherdson Dana, 1931 - 2022
Jean Shepherdson Dana passed away peacefully in Shelton, CT, on November 26th, surrounded by her family.
Jean is survived by her sons James (Lori) and Keith (Kathy) and grandchildren Michael, Nicholas, and Marike. She was predeceased by her daughter Laurel, her husband Joseph, brother Robert and sister Ann.
The daughter of Dorothy and Amos Shepherdson, Jean grew up in Needham, MA. She attended Wheaton College where she studied Political Science. Jean was an early and enthusiastic adopter of ski culture, and it was no surprise that she met her husband Joe at a local watering hole on a ski trip to Cannon Mtn. Though they spent the first few years of married life in Cleveland, they returned to New England to raise a family in Wilbraham and Andover, MA. The family grew up with weekly ski and hiking trips in the local mountains. Jean and Joe retired to Chatham on Cape Cod. They loved to sail and be near the ocean.
Jean was always on the go - volunteering at the library, being a docent at a nature center, participating in reading and garden clubs, going on elderhostel trips, skiing, tennis, hosting large dinner parties or supporting the local arts scene.
Ultimately Alzheimer's forced her to slowdown and her final years were spent in assisted living in Shelton, CT, near her son James.
Jean will always be remembered for her love, generosity, intellect and adventurous spirit.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held in Chatham, MA in Spring 2023. In lieu of flowers consider donating to Alzheimer's Association or Nature Conservancy.
