James Szarmach, age 61 of Bridgeport passed away peacefully on Wednesday. April 23, 2025 at his home with his loving wife Elizabeth by his side.  Born in Bridgeport on April 6, 1964, Jimmy was a son of the late Joseph and Kathleen McCallum Szarmach and grew up in Stratford.  He was the devoted husband of 19 years to Elizabeth Porebski Szarmach.  He worked as a certified auto mechanic for many years. He was an avid and long-suffering NY Jets fan, and would watch every game loyally.  He was also a big Mets fan and enjoyed watching boxing matches. Jimmy loved the outdoors; he would go fishing, ride his bike and he especially enjoyed the beach. He was famous for his meatballs and deviled eggs.  Jimmy had an infectious laugh and liked to joke around and have fun.  He loved southern rock and Lynyrd Skynard, and was a friend to many cats and dogs.

In addition to his caring wife, Liz, he is survived by his brothers, Joseph (Jaime) Szarmach and Edward Szarmach, his nieces, Tiffany Szarmach, Grace Szarmach, and Britney Szarmach and nephew, Shawn Szarmach.  He is also survived by his mother in-law, Mary Porebski, sister in-law, Leonia (Stephen) Soltis, and their daughters, Emma and Audrey.  Jimmy was predeceased by his brothers, Donald and Shawn Szarmach.

Visiting hours will  be held on Thursday May 1, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Dennis & D'Arcy – Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main St. Stratford.  Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday May 2, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Robert Adkins, officiating.

Burial will follow in  Riverside Cemetery, Shelton.
