Obituary

James Mather Mitchell, age 73 a lifelong resident of Lordship passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Bridgeport Hospital Hospice with his loving family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Jerri Pengue Mitchell. Born in Bridgeport on January 31, 1944 he was a son of the late Joseph Bronis Mitchell and Joan Nancy Ketchum Mitchell. James graduated from Stratford High School and then became a proud US Marine during the Vietnam Era. Mr. Mitchell was an inspector for Sikorsky Aircraft for 32 years until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion, enjoyed fishing and was a devoted woman's UCONN Huskies fan. In addition to his beloved wife Jerri of 38 years he is survived by his son, Scott Mitchell and his wife Terese of Milford and Sarah Pucci and her husband Shane of Stratford. He is also survived by his brother, Brian Mitchell of Shelton and 4 loving grandchildren; Peyton Cook, Aubrey and Ryan Mitchell and Shane Pucci Jr. and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his daughter Tracey Mitchell. Friends may greet the family on Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 3 to 6 pm at the Dennis & D'Arcy – Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford. A funeral service will be conducted at 6:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Meg Williams officiating, followed by full military honors in honor of his faithful service to our country.
