Obituary

Helena Czajkowski, age 81, of Stratford, CT, passed away on August 12, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.

Helena was born on March 16, 1945 in Gasowka Skwarki, Poland, to Wladyslaw and Anna Choinski. She came to the United States in 1989, arriving in North Carolina and settling in Bridgeport, CT, where she began working in Lacey Factory and happily retired in 2010.

While in Poland, Helena grew up with two siblings, a sister named Janina Golaszewski and a brother Henryk Choinski who unfortunately passed away in the 1980s. Helena was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jan Czajkowski, with whom she shared 40 years of marriage. Together, they loved attending Polish picnics and dancing.

A devoted Roman Catholic, Helena's faith was an important part of her life. She was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church in Bridgeport, CT for 36 years, and attended Mass regularly, prayed the Rosary, and celebrated Catholic traditions with her family and friends.

Helena was the loving mother of three daughters: Teresa Lukaszewicz (husband Mark), Danuta Łapiński (husband Slawomir), and Elzbieta Micek. She was a beloved grandmother to Joanna, Magdalena, Cyndia, Jessica, Daniel, Nicole, and Paweł, and a loving great-grandmother to Phillippe, Vader, and Odin.

Helena will be remembered for her kindness, devotion to her family, strong faith, and generosity. She especially loved spending time with loved ones, cooking and baking, playing cards, going to the beach, and praying. She could often be found in her garden as this was one of her favorite hobbies. Her family will always remember her as a selfless woman who always put others first.

One thing Helena was especially known for was her strength and courage, as she fought a tough battle for a little over a month after her lung cancer diagnosis. Those who knew her would describe her as extremely hard-working.

Helena leaves behind a family who will carry forward her faith, strength, and love of family. Her memory will live on through her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the generations of family whose lives were shaped by hers.
