Gary C. Murphy, age 75, of Bridgeport passed away peacefully Sunday, October 1, 2017 at St. Vincent's Medical Center.

Born in Bridgeport he was the son of the late Clifford J. and Mary L. Cullen Murphy. He was a graduate of Harding Highschool and attended the University of Bridgeport and Sacred Heart University. He played baseball for Harding Highschool, the Senior City League and the Bridgeport Puerto Rican League as a pitcher. Gary was also an avid reader and was passionate about mentoring, especially in higher level science and mathematics.

He is survived by his brothers Robert Murphy and Lillian Brennan of Stratford and Gerald D. and Denise Murphy of Charleston, South Carolina. He also leaves his nieces and nephews, Robert Murphy Jr., Daniel L. Murphy, Jennifer Reola, Brian D. Murphy and Lisa Murphy, along with several grand-nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Father Al Forlano and the 6th Floor staff of St. Vincent's Medical Center for their care and compassion during Gary's illness

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at St. Margaret's Shrine, 2523 Park Ave. Bridgeport, at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Bridgeport. There will be no calling hours.
