Elmer Lee
Peters
Mar 9, 1931 — Jan 14, 2023
We are deeply grieved to announce the passing of our dear father and husband Elmer Lee Peters of Bridgeport, Connecticut. After a long rally and a hard fight, Elmer age 91 has gone to sleep in Jesus in the early morning hours of January 14, 2023 at home.
Born March 9, 1931 in Clearwater Lake, Wisconsin to Joseph and Clara (Moses) Peters, Elmer was predeceased by his parents, first wife Jane Peters, his sons Elmer, Jr. (Pete), James, and Andrew (Andy) Peters, as well as seven of his nine siblings - Evelyn (Ev), Doris (Dorry), Alma (Skip), Norman (Norm), Carl (Curly), Clara (Billy) and Guy. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Peters, children Melissa Peters, David Peters and Cindy Pischel, sister Viola (Tuss) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He brightened his family's life with his unique sense of humor and loved to tell stories about his childhood in rural Wisconsin. We found joy spending time with him as he went about the simple ordinary tasks of everyday life whether it was changing the radiator on the car, unclogging the bathroom sink or shopping for the best deals on daily household items. He was a practical, handy and thrifty man. Even with his declining health in his later years, we found joy in doing simple things together such as our daily walks or pushing him around the zoo in his wheelchair to look at the animals.
Before retiring, Elmer was a mason and builder by trade and spent many years in the construction business for himself. Just like the sturdy foundations he laid of block and stone, he laid a strong foundation of character and faith in his home. He was a devout Seventh-day Adventist with a strong faith in God and belief in observing all of God's commandments. He was devoted to God first and his family. He will be greatly missed but we look forward to the glad resurrection day when we can be reunited again without any more pain or suffering.
A private graveside service will be held at the State Veterans Cemetery at 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT 06457 on January 26, 2023 at 1PM.
