Applegate, Elizabeth P.
Her friends called her Betty. Her Family called her Grammy or Mrs. App. Elizabeth almost reached 96 years, she was the daughter of the late Berkley and Grace Moon Parmelee, and she was proud to say that she was nearly a lifelong Stratford resident. She was graduated from Stratford High School in 1937. She attended Pembroke College (Brown University) and earned a degree in nursing in 1942.
Marrying her college sweetheart in September 1943, she waited for Russel to come home from WWII. While raising a family, Betty was involved in many organizations including Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, 4H Club, PTA and many activities at Christ Episcopal her church. In later years she became a docent for Stratford Historical Society and Boothe Memorial Park. She was a member of the Housatonic Boat Club and participated in duckpin bowling for many years.
She was survived by her loving children, Russel C. (Virginia) Applegate III of Wallingford, PA, Robert A. (Judith) Applegate of Gales Ferry, CT, Richard K. (Lisa) Applegate of Monroe, CT, and Judith A. (A. James) Jervis of Ardmore, PA along with her sister Janet M. Kennedy of Reno NV. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jonathan, Eric, Larissa, Elizabeth, Mark, Brian and Douglas and 12 great grandchildren. A service in her memory will take place on Monday, October 12, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Christ Episcopal Church, 2000 Main Street with Rev. Scott Lee officiating. Inurnment will follow in Putney Cemetery, Stratford.
