Eleanor Jane Smith Mattar, age 91 a life long resident of Stratford passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Danbury Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the widow of William A. Mattar who passed away in 1983. Born in Bridgeport on June 25, 1924 she was the daughter of the late John Raymond Smith and Elizabeth Ethel Nordaby Smith. Eleanor was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother, she will be sadly missed by her daughter Cynthia J. Rice and her Husband Robert of Sandy Hook and her son, William A. Mattar of Stratford. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Carie L. Coleman Turk and her husband Richard, Scott W. Coleman and his wife Tina, William A. Mattar II. 5 Step grandchildren; Mark Rice, Lori Spring, Wendy DeDonato, Elizabeth Rice and Christian Rice. She also leaves behind her great grandchildren; Holden and Kyle Turk, Max, Hailey, and Ethan Coleman, and nieces and nephews; John Smith, Sandra Smith, Louise Broadhurst and Robert Ross. In addition to her beloved husband she was predeceased by her borthers; John and Edward Smith. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Dennis & D'Arcy – Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford, with Pastor Simeon Law officiating.
