Eleanor Frances Dempsey,

Born January 29, 1933, during The Depression, mom was a fighter from day one. She has passed away peacefully at home after a long illness. She was born to Eleanor Purcell and John O'Connell of Bridgeport.

She was an avid reader, knitter, duckpin bowler and Little League taxi/coach throughout the 60's and 70's. She retired from Warner's after 38 years as a bookkeeper.

She was predeceased by her husband of 27 years, John Theodore Dempsey, and a son, Martin Patrick Dempsey. Survivors include two sons, John M. Dempsey (Laurie) and Brian W. Dempsey, both of whom are former Stratford Town Councilmen; eight grandchildren, Katherine, Erin (Pete Lisej), Shannon (Sean Haywood), J.J., James, Sean, Martin and Ryan; and her longtime friends Barbara Stanley and Betty Armbruster.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Our Lady of Grace Church, 497 Second Hill Lane, Stratford with Monsignor Ryan officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may greet the family Friday, June 1, from 4-8 p.m. at the Dennis & D'Arcy – Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main St., Stratford.
