Edythe Hynes, age 97 of Bethel, CT formerly a life-long resident of Sunnyside, Queens, New York, passed away peacefully on, Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Maplewood at Stoney Hill in Bethel. She was the widow of Ret. NYPD Detective Peter J. Hynes. Born in New York, New York she was a daughter of Joseph and Antionette DiBlasi Negri. Mrs. Hynes was a lifelong devoted parishioner of Queen of Angles Roman Catholic Church in Sunnyside. After raising her sons, Edythe was an engineer assistant with New York Telephone for many years until her retirement. She will sadly be missed by her sons; Peter Hynes and his wife Joan Ellen of Norwalk and Thomas Hynes and his wife Denise of Poughquag, NY. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Peter Hynes, Thomas Hynes, Allison Hynes Newlun, Cindy Hynes Renwick and 6 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband Peter she was predeceased by her brother and 5 sisters. The hours of visitation will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 12 to 3 pm at the Dennis & D'Arcy – Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main St., Stratford. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm at the funeral home with Father Thomas Lynch officiating. Interment will be held privately at Calvary Cemetery, Queens, NY at a later date.
